Description

Fars province,south west persia. Third quarter of the 19th century.

The lovely mid blue field with three central irregular stepped hexagonal medallions.

The field filled with earlier tribal motifs including the pecking chickens,two-headed animals with floral motifs on their backs,botehs,tribal and zoomorphic interesting ornaments and of particular note is the sole ivory coloured tribal figure holding a precious object to the central right side.

Has some marvellous colours including a yellow,green and various blues. The design is atypical of the arab-jabbareh tribe and is a beautiful example of earlier 19th century weavings from this group with rich colours and lustrous wool. The devil of course always being in the little details.

All ends and sides secured. You will note the different coloured side bindings also associated with this tribal group.

Even pile a bit lower in places. Size is 5 foot by 3 foot 11 inches. 152cm X 120cm. At widest points. Fringes not measured in size.

All woollen construction with the weft threads dyed light brown.
