Description

Antique Marble Fireplace with Brass Detailing

This stunning antique marble fireplace is an exquisite example of timeless French design, featuring luxurious deep burgundy marble with rich veining and elegant brass accents. The piece exudes grandeur and sophistication, making it an ideal focal point for any traditional or contemporary home.

The fireplace is currently located in France and would require shipping to the UK, which has been quoted at £1,000.

Condition:

The marble shows some minor marks, including a circular spot near the top right corner, which could be polished out by a professional. The Brass edging to plinth in first photo has been lost.

There has been a discreet repair to the back left-hand corner of the top marble piece, which does not detract from its overall charm and functionality.

This fireplace is perfect for those looking to bring a piece of French history into their home while appreciating its authentic patina and character. A true conversation starter and a rare find.

FAQs

Antique marble fireplace surrounds became prominent design features during the Georgian and Victorian eras, serving as both functional heating fixtures and focal points for formal rooms.

They were typically constructed from carved natural stone such as marble or limestone, often combined with cast iron grates, brass inserts, and hand-finished decorative moulding.

Authentic pieces generally display natural stone variations, hand-carved details, historical tool marks, and age-related weathering or patina on metal components.

Such pieces can anchor contemporary living spaces by contrasting historic stonework with minimalist decor, neutral walls, or modern artwork hung above the mantel.

Maintenance requires dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding acidic cleaners that damage marble, and using specialized gentle metal polish on brass elements.
