A spectacular antique early Victorian rosewood secretaire Wellington chest dating from circa 1850. It features a rectangular moulded top above six graduated drawers with turned handles, one being a double fronted drop down with secretaire interior. The secretaire interior has two small birds-eye-maple drawers, four pigeon holes and a writing surface. It has attractive carved corbels to both sides and stands on a plinth base. All the drawers are secured in place by a side hinged locking pilaster on the right which has a working lock and key.
Construction/Wood:
Rosewood, Oak
Condition Report:
Good colour and patina. Comes with working lock and key. General wear and marks commensurate with age. The drop down fall of the secretaire has warped over time - it still closes and locks shut, but only locks into place on one side. There is a split to the leather writing surface.
