Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian bow front chest of drawers dating from 1860 in the English Country House style. The piece uses solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over pine, finished in a dark brown tone with a wax polish. Details include figured flame mahogany veneers on the drawer fronts, cockbeaded edges, and original turned wooden handles on the two short and three long graduated drawers, alongside a moulded crossbanded top and turned feet. The chest measures 119.5 cm high, 109 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep. This piece functions as a practical storage chest in a bedroom, hallway, or living space, providing surface display space and deep drawer capacity. The dark timber and traditional design fit well into period interiors and country house settings.

FAQs

Popularised during the late 18th and 19th centuries, a bow-front chest of drawers features a convex curved front profile designed to soften the angular lines of a room while providing deep storage capacity.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany frames or pine carcasses veneered with highly figured flame mahogany, complemented by hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and turned timber handles.

Look for hand-sawn dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, original steel or brass keyhole escutcheons, secondary pine or oak linings, and natural age-related patination on the timber surfaces.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway or bedroom, contrasting its rich timber tones against neutral walls and contemporary artwork or ceramics.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading, and apply a high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain annually.
