Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1880s.
Antique Caucasian Marasali prayer rug of the scarce 'Black' ground colour.
Dated 1301 / 1883.
The field is filled with rows of colourful 'flaming' boteh which are beautifully drawn with great detail; each boteh has its own unique design and colour way. The rug is dated 1301 to either side of the mihrab, this translates to 1883. The main border and the mihrab are ivory coloured and both contain the classic Marasali bird design. The rug is of very fine weave and has superb colour.

The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium / low pile, there is a small old repair at the lower end of the rug, this can be seen in detail in the close up image.
The rug has been hand washed and ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for light domestic use or would make a superb wall hanging.
