Description

Good pair of Victorian "Grand Tour" bronze figures on original marble bases of a boy and a girl. Nice colour marble bases with shaped brass collars between the marble bases and the bronze busts. They are not signed as far as I can see. Good detail and a nice patination to both.

There is slight old damage to one of the black marble bases as shown and there are a couple of very small marks to the top back of both heads.

These stand very well and would look good in any setting.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian bronze sculptures often embrace romanticism, classical revivalism, and highly detailed portraiture, reflecting the refined artistic tastes and industrial capabilities of the 19th century.

These pieces typically utilise cast bronze with applied chemical patination, frequently mounted upon turned pedestals of variegated marble, slate, or alabaster.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast construction with hand-chased surface detailing, natural age-related patination, and traditional foundry marks or cold-painted traces rather than modern resin fabrication.

They can be positioned on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or sideboards to introduce classical gravitas, tactile contrast, and historical depth to modern or transitional spaces.

Maintain them by gently dusting with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding all harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that might strip the historic surface patina.
