Striking Japanese Meiji (early 19thc) Bronze Vase, Nakao Munesada

Superb Japanese Edo (early 19thC) Bronze Vase by Nakao Munesada. The vase depicts two karako (Chinese children), one of which is trapped in a vat. His friend, Shiba Onko, is using a rock to break the jar to drain it and set him free.
 
Nakao Munesada (d. 1835) was a famous metal artist working in Osaka in the late Edo period (his sons continued the family tradition into the Meiji period). Signed on the base in a long oval reserve. 25cm high x 16cm diameter (widest part), weight 2.4kg.
 
Excellent condition and patina.
