Christian Tilemann-petersen, Manor House Interior - Antique Oil Painting

1900 - 1920
Description

This early 20th-century oil painting by Danish artist Christian Tilemann-Petersen (1874-1926) depicts an elegant manor house interior.

Tilemann-Petersen found his nirvana within the luxurious environs of plush historic homes. With a keen understanding of texture and light, his controlled compositions were rendered with geometric precision. There’s a Vermeer-esque quality as if each resplendent room has been captured in dignified perpetuity - and should we return today, the scene would be entirely unaltered.

Born in Copenhagen, Tilemann-Petersen worked predominantly in Scandinavia but also ventured to the British Isles where he produced detailed views of Windsor and the ancient tombs of Winchester Cathedral.

The location of this particular piece is unknown but it’s interesting to note that during the same year (1922), he also worked at Rosenborg Castle.

Signed/dated lower left and held in a later frame.
