A Regency mahogany carved and inlaid sideboard the shaped and inverted top outlined with stringing over a central concave frieze drawer and a sliding tambour door, flanked by conforming convex drawers, applied with gilt metal wreath ring handles and punctuated by reeded pillars with leaf carved capitals extending to the four front ring turned, reeded legs and tulip feet, with two conforming rear legs.

Note: The attribution to the illustrious firm of Gillows is based on many years handling stamped pieces and known Gillows examples where there are a number of recurring aspects both of manufacture and design. The reeded leg which we see here is often referred to as a “Gillows Leg” and in the literature set out below, there are numerous examples of this.
The tower or turret corners or columns is another feature of theirs. The quality and vibrance of timbers used is typical of their work and the very careful selection of the finest veneers available endorses the attribution.
