A banjo barometer is a domestic weather-measuring instrument characterised by its distinct shape, featuring a narrow stem containing a thermometer and a wider circular base housing the barometer dial.

Traditional banjo barometers are usually constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or rosewood, often featuring hand-carved decorative motifs, brass bezels, and white enamel or porcelain dials.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-appropriate hand-carving, traditional maker signatures on the dial plate, original convex glass covers, and mechanical components consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing techniques.

These instruments serve as striking vertical wall art and complement traditional studies, hallways, or living rooms, contrasting effectively against dark or neutral painted walls.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight, excessive moisture, and fluctuating heat sources, cleaning the wooden case periodically with a dry, soft cloth and leaving internal mechanical adjustments to professional conservators.
