Antique salt bag by the Tartar nomads of Uzbekistan / northern Afghanistan.

Circa 1900.

Salt bags by the Uzbek nomads are quite scarce, they were used to store rock salt to be given to their animals during the migration. This example has an abstract diamond design to the face and also to the neck, and a stripe design to the reverse. The appearance is quite primitive.

The salt bag is in good condition with some signs of tribal use and some old re-weaves.

The bag has been hand washed and is ready for display.
