Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Genre oil paintings depict scenes of everyday life, domestic interiors, and narrative period settings. Popularised during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, these works focused on figurative storytelling, costume details, and interior architecture, reflecting the social customs and artistic tastes of the period.

These works typically consist of oil-based pigments applied to woven linen canvas, stretched across wooden stretcher bars. The framing usually comprises carved timber or molded gesso with applied gold leaf or metallic gilt finishing.

Authenticity is verified by examining the natural age-related craquelure pattern on the paint surface, inspecting the rear canvas weave and wooden stretcher joints for patina, and checking for artist signatures along the lower edges.

A substantial framed canvas works well as a central focal point above a fireplace mantle, a credenza, or along a hall gallery wall. Combining traditional figurative art with clean modern furniture creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Dust the frame regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or chemical sprays near the canvas. Keep the painting out of direct sunlight and away from high-humidity areas to prevent fading, canvas sagging, or paint flaking.
