Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1930s:
Hand-spun wool pile on a woven foundation: village hand-knotting before synthetic yarn.
Gentle variations in width along the sides: informal village loom work.
Abrash colour banding across the madder field: small-batch vegetable dyeing.
Dark brown wool outlines sitting lower than the field: gradual dye oxidisation.

This 1930 Persian Heriz runner rug is hand-knotted from wool and cotton with a hand-knotted pile. The deep red terracotta field displays a vertical column of seven geometric hooked medallions in navy blue, cream and brown, enclosed within a repeating patterned border motif and flanked by guard stripes. The edges show slight fringe wear at both ends and natural abrash variation across the deep red and navy blue tones. Measuring 257 cm long by 66 cm wide, it is well suited for narrow spaces such as a long hallway, a wide corridor, or alongside a bed in an English country house setting. The rug brings traditional pattern and warmth to hardwood or stone flooring while remaining durable for everyday domestic use.

Heriz carpets originate from the Heris region in Northwest Iran, renowned for producing durable, hand-knotted textiles with bold geometric patterns and vibrant natural dyes.

These runners are hand-knotted using coarse wool pile tied onto a strong cotton or wool warp and weft foundation, coloured with vegetable-based dyes.

Authentic pieces feature geometric medallions, rectilinear floral motifs, slight dye variations known as abrash, and a sturdy, heavy wool construction with hand-finished edges.

A geometric runner is commonly laid in narrow corridors, entryways, or along the side of a bed to add colour, texture, and visual length to a room.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beater bar, rotate the rug annually to balance foot traffic, and treat spills immediately with spot cleaning.
