Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter and more eclectic than heavy Victorian pieces, frequently drawing inspiration from Georgian and Sheraton revivals with delicate inlay and painted decorations.

These pieces typically utilized solid timbers like mahogany, satinwood, and walnut, often enhanced with boxwood stringing, marquetry, hand-painted floral motifs, and leather writing inserts.

Authentication involves examining drawer construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, assessing timber ageing, and inspecting the hand-painted details and brass hardware for period-appropriate wear and manufacturing methods.

Pairing the ornate woodwork with contemporary seating and minimalist lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the historic craftsmanship within a modern space.

Maintaining these pieces requires keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking, applying occasional quality beeswax, and using soft cloths for cleaning.
