FAQs

Iron and brass bedsteads gained immense popularity during the Victorian era due to advancements in industrial manufacturing, offering a hygienic and durable alternative to traditional wooden frames.

These frames typically combine cast and wrought iron components, often featuring hand-poured decorative junctions, brass finials, and robust metal tubing designed to support heavy mattresses.

Authentic antique iron beds often display hand-threaded joints, slight asymmetries indicative of manual blacksmithing, heavy metal weight, and layers of historical paint or oxidisation beneath modern finishes.

Pairing the industrial black metal framework with minimalist neutral linens, textured wool throws, and natural wood flooring creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that anchors modern bedrooms.

Maintenance involves dusting with a dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that strip historical finishes, and gently treating any surface corrosion with microcrystalline wax.
