Worked in Uzbekistan in the last quarter of the 19th century, this is a very beautiful embroidery in a very useful size. Fine workmanship in silk, the striking coloring and pretty design in a long format would make an ideal wall hanging, curtain or drape. ''Suzani'' is the Persian word for needlework. and refers to a craft that was developed in Uzbekistan, reaching its zenith in the 18th and 19th centuries. Suzanis were made in many formats for many uses, but were often made girls and the womenfolk in their family as dowry gifts. This lovely piece is composed of two border fragments which have been joined together. Good condition.
