Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian marquetry wardrobe is a large freestanding storage cabinet produced in the 19th century, characterised by decorative wood inlays forming detailed floral, neoclassical, or scrollwork patterns on veneer panels.

Renowned London cabinetmakers Edwards & Roberts typically constructed items using high-grade mahogany, satinwood, or rosewood, embellishing surfaces with fine floral marquetry, marquetry veneers, and precision hand-cut joinery.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry inlays, natural age-related oxidisation on timber surfaces, maker stamps on drawer tops or locks, and traditional hand-dovetailed drawer joints.

Position the wardrobe as a focal point in a master bedroom or generous dressing room, contrasting its ornate woodwork with understated neutral wall tones and sleek minimalist lighting.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax along the grain twice a year, and maintain consistent room humidity to stop delicate wood veneers from lifting or cracking.
