Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hand-painted trade and pub signs originated as visual advertisements and pictorial markers for commercial establishments, particularly during eras when literacy was not universal. These panels frequently portray military figures, historical events, or local heraldry executed in durable paints.

Historically, these signs were executed on solid timber boards, heavy plywood, or sheet iron, secured within a protective wooden frame. Craftspeople used oil-based or enamel paints in multiple layers to withstand environmental wear while retaining bold colours.

Authentic vintage painted panels feature visible brushwork, age-related paint craquelure, and subtle surface patination consistent with natural aging rather than uniform modern printing. Examining the reverse of the panel and inspecting hand-drawn lettering variations helps confirm age and artisan construction.

A substantial statement panel serves as an effective focal point when mounted above a sideboard, fireplace, or within a dedicated study space. Pairing the artwork with rich timber furniture, muted background tones, and brass accents highlights its strong graphic presence.

Position the panel away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent timber warping or paint flaking. Dust the surface regularly using a clean, soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners and harsh chemical solvents.
