A beautiful summer landscape by Roger-Antoine Serpanié , a artist from Rouergue, a former province of France which corresponds roughly with the modern department of Aveyron. Roger (1891-1971) who was the son of the painter Marie-Casimir Serpantié, loved the region where he was raised and he became famous for depicting it.
Serpantié showed his work at the Galerie RG in Paris; paintings by the artist are in the National Centre of Plastic Arts in the French capital and in the Denis Puech Museum in Rodez.
Here, we see the ancient Entraygues bridge over the Truyère: its construction was authorised in 1269 by the Archbishop of Bourges, Jean de Sully. Put into service in 1340, it was cut in 1388, repaired in 1524 and restored in 1680.
Signed at the lower right, our oil on canvas measures 38 x 55 cm. The overall framed size in a hand carved with leaf gold is 55 x 72 cm
