Description

Antique Egyptian Revival Gilt Tazzer Centerpiece Gilt & Silverplated Bronze

This antique centerpiece features an intricate design with three camels covered in a finely decorated blanket, all crafted with gilt bronze and heavily silver plated bronze.

The piece is a beautiful example of Victorian style and Egyptian revival theme. This center piece would make a stunning addition to any home decor collection, especially for those who appreciate historic and cultural pieces. The detailing on the camels and the blankets is exquisite as can be seen from the photographs.

The inside of the camel and the gilt bears the THE 'VICTORIAN LOZENGE' dating 'REGISTERED MODEL' OF 'THE UK PATENT OFFICE'. This dates this to 25th January 1872 Unlike silver items, there is no date letter on silverplate allowing to recognize the date of its manufacture. For silverplate items the patent's date of registered models may be useful for an approximate dating. We have found a similar example which was by Elkington.

The glass plate to the top is beautifully etched which sets it off superbly.

The approximate dimensions are:

8 3/4 "/ 22 cm high x 8 1/4" / 21 cm diameter

Declaration

N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this Egyptian Revival Tazza to the 19th Century.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Egyptian Revival style drew inspiration from ancient Egyptian art, experiencing major revivals in Europe and America following Napoleons campaigns in Egypt and later archaeological discoveries such as the opening of Tutankhamuns tomb.

Maker workshops frequently combined cast bronze, gilt metal, silverplate, and blown or cut glass to create hierarchical colour contrast and textural depth in decorative table objects.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit hand-chased surface details, patination consistent with age, heavy cast metal construction, and wheel-cut glass components rather than modern pressed glass.

Place the object as a standalone focal point on a dining table, sideboard, or open console to highlight its sculptural qualities and reflective metallic finishes.

Clean surfaces gently with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding abrasive cleaning agents, harsh chemical polishes, and excessive moisture to protect the delicate gilt and plated layers.
