Walnut And Seaweed Marquetry 17th Century Chest Of Drawers

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Rumble Antiques

A walnut and seaweed marquetry William and Mary chest of drawers. The marquetry on the drawer fronts and top is of stunning quality with the use of ebony and boxwood stringing around the medallions of marquetry. The top and bottom mouldings of the chest are of ogee form. The chest, with two over three drawers, is decorated with graduated ovals of inlay. The drawers are pine lined with some old sugar paper lining. The sides are walnut veneer. The top is unusual as it is completely covered with decorative, seaweed inlay. Altogether a special piece which would have been important at the time of its construction as it is now. An important piece.
