The George II style, spanning from 1727 to 1760, bridges heavy baroque influences and the lighter, more elegant lines of early rococo, often featuring substantial construction and rich timber patination.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised native timbers such as oak and elm for structural elements and drawer linings, frequently employing imported mahogany or walnut for primary visible surfaces.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetails, handmade wrought iron or brass fixings, timber shrinkage patterns, and period-appropriate secondary woods consistent with eighteenth-century workshop practices.

Positioning a period timber chest within a neutral modern room provides grounding contrast, acting as a functional focal point that complements minimalist aesthetics.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels, avoid direct sunlight to protect the finish, and occasionally apply traditional beeswax to nourish the timber surface.
