Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often combined influences from earlier periods like Sheraton, Chippendale, and Hepplewhite, favouring lighter proportions and refined craftsmanship.

Edwardian desks were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, frequently featuring leather or hide writing surfaces with gold-tooled borders and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, aged patina on the timber, original brass locks, and minor signs of wear consistent with age.

An antique library desk can serve as a focal point in a study or living space by pairing it with contemporary seating and minimalist accessories to create a balanced contrast between old and new.

Maintain mahogany by applying a quality bees-wax polish periodically to nourish the wood, and clean leather inserts gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
