Introduced in the early nineteenth century, Wedgwood drabware is a type of fine earthenware characterised by its neutral, olive-grey or buff-coloured clay body. It was often decorated with enamelled botanical or Chinoiserie patterns during the Georgian and Regency periods.

These ceramic pieces were crafted using coloured clay bodies rather than surface glazes to achieve their signature drab tone. Hand-painted enamelling was subsequently applied over the glaze to create detailed flora, fauna, and decorative borders.

Authentic pieces typically feature impressed factory marks, such as WEDGWOOD, stamped directly into the underside of the clay body prior to firing. Additionally, period examples demonstrate fine enamelling and crisp moulding along the rims.
