Exceptional Antique Tabriz Carpet

Description

A masterpiece of weaving! This exceptional antique Tabriz carpet is from the master weavers workshop - 'Haji Jalili.' Carpets woven from this workshop are extremely fine in their execution, and were always made using excellent dyes that have mellowed beautifully. The soft palette is due to the carpets age, woven around circa 1880-1890 the dyes would have been much stronger and fade to give a wonderful saturated feel. The design is known as the vase Tree of Life design woven with incredible detail and colour, on an ivory white background and full of intricate floral work and exquisite trees.  The design at start composes of wonderful stags and pale blue trees, all woven with remarkable precision, the weavers who created this work of art were masters of their profession.

A very rare carpet and in the best condition, truly a collectable and valuable carpet over 130 years old and with a soft handle and wool pile.  Which you would expect from a master workshop carpet.

This carpet has been in an important private collection for over 20 years and is fresh to the market.  A unique opportunity to purchase a Tabriz carpet of this quality and in outstanding original condition.

Traditional Tabriz carpets are hand-knotted using a durable wool pile woven onto a cotton or silk warp and weft foundation. High-density symmetrical knots allow weavers to create intricate detail and robust floor coverings.

An authentic piece displays a finely detailed weave visible on the reverse side with minor hand-knotted organic variations. Look for classic design elements such as central medallions, arched mihrabs, or tree motifs framed by intricate multi-band borders.
