Delftware originated in the Netherlands during the 16th century as a European imitation of imported Chinese porcelain, later expanding production to factories in England.

These pieces were typically made from a buff-coloured earthenware body, coated in an opaque tin-lead glaze, and hand-painted with cobalt blue pigments before being fired.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor glaze imperfections, chipping along the fragile earthenware edges known as flaking, and hand-painted brushwork characteristic of the period.

Antique plates can be mounted on a wall using safe display hangers, positioned on plate stands on shelving units, or integrated into a tablescape as a focal point.

Keep antique ceramic items away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, clean only with a dry or lightly damp soft cloth, and avoid soaking in water to protect the porous biscuit body.
