In lovely original condition, this is a very finely woven antique Tehran carpet woven around 110 years ago in Persia. The size is unusually square, and with an all over elegant fine design, the weavers have used a wonderful pale yellow colour. This yellow, as well as all the other dyes are all of vegetable origins and have aged beautifully.
Tehran is the capital of Iran, the greatest carpet producing country in the world. However, while traditional rugs have been woven in a variety of styles throughout Persia for centuries and centuries Tehran itself only became a centre of rug production after the great revival of Persian weaving in the late nineteenth century.
