Description

The 'Mina Khani' design of blue, red and yellow main flowers, interconnected by a green vine with smaller white flowers is one of the best designs in the Kurdish repertoire. When it is done well, it is sublime, as shown here. The design is irregular, full of 'faults' and 'mistakes' which is what gives it the powerful charm. The midnight blue field, also strongly abrashed, allows for a sense of depth behind the flowering vines and the golden yellow border warms it all up. Superb natural dyes and the famous, glistening Kurdish wool. Its a rare treat and im so pleased to have found such a great old rug in original, untouched condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique Kurdish runner is a handwoven elongated carpet traditionally crafted by Kurdish nomadic and village weavers in the mountainous regions spanning modern-day Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, known for distinctive geometric motifs and robust construction.

These runners typically feature handspun wool pile knotted onto wool or cotton foundations, dyed using natural vegetable and mineral colourants such as madder root and indigo.

Authentic antique Kurdish rugs display irregularities in weave and symmetry due to hand-knotting, natural abrash colour variations in the wool, and traditional tribal iconography rather than mass-produced uniformity.

This piece adds texture and historical grounding to transitional or contemporary hallways, corridors, and narrow spaces, pairing well with natural wood floors and minimalist furniture.

Preserve the rug by vacuuming gently without a rotating brush bar, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and using a breathable underlay to minimise friction and wear.
