Lovely terracotta dyes and pale blues on this antique heriz rug, a small size and in excellent order. Heriz carpets and rugs were woven in the north west of Persia with hand spun wool and natural dyes. This rug has been woven with all natural dyes typical of this area from this period, around 1890-1900. Hand-woven using natural vegetable dyes and mixture of floral and geometric motifs. A great little tribal rug to brighten the floor.
Antique Heriz rugs and carpets are know as the ''Iron rugs of Persia'' as they are extremely tough being made using good quality wool in the north-west of Persia. Madder red and indigo blue dyes are the most common colours you associate with Heriz weavings.
