Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

The Northern School generally depicts industrial towns, urban landscapes, and everyday northern life with a focus on gritty realism, atmospheric light, and rich textures.

Artists of this era commonly used rigid supports such as wood panels, pulp boards, or millboards primed with gesso, paired with traditional oil-based pigments.

Authentication involves examining pigment oxidisation under magnification, checking the substrate for age-appropriate wear, inspecting for artist signatures or inscriptions, and reviewing framing materials.

Pairing the artwork with a simple, understated frame allows the textured brushwork to stand out, complementing both minimalist contemporary spaces and traditional academic interiors.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable relative humidity between 40-50 percent, and avoid exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent warping of the board.
