Finely woven, very unusual size and beautiful colour. The red ground with an elegant, allover design predominantly in green and gold, although there are accents of taupe, ivory and pale yellow, within a grass green border. In excellent condition, original ends, one expert repair to one side.

Ziegler carpets were commissioned in Persia by the Manchester-based firm Ziegler & Co during the late nineteenth century. Designed specifically for Western markets, they feature scaled-up classical floral motifs and softer, muted colour palettes.

Authentic Ziegler carpets are constructed using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation, coloured using natural vegetable dyes.

Authentic pieces feature soft colour variations from natural vegetable dyes, slight asymmetry characteristic of hand-knotted weaving, a flexible cotton backing, and uniform pile wear consistent with age.
