Description

An absolutely beautiful antique Swedish leather sofa. We have recently imported this from Sweden, it dates from around the 1900-1920 period.

The quality is superb and it is very comfortable. The seat is well sprung, the frame sits on solid oak splayed legs. The leather has a gorgeous chestnut colour tone, we have had this revived and enhanced by our leather restorer.

The legs have also been re-polished, this is in excellent condition for its age. There is just some minor wear and light marks here and there, commensurate for age.

We also have the matching single armchair that came with this, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique leather sofas typically feature traditional silhouettes such as rolled arms, deep button tufting, and handcrafted wooden frames characteristic of historical periods.

Authentic period sofas are constructed using solid wood frames, traditional coil springs or webbed suspensions, horsehair or wool stuffing, and genuine vegetable-tanned leather upholstery.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-tied springs, traditional joinery methods in the wooden frame, natural wear patterns on the leather, and the presence of hand-hammered tacks.

Pair the sofa with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary textiles to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain antique leather by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically treating it with specialized leather conditioners to prevent cracking.
