Impressive French Bronze Group of a Horse Drinking, with Mother & Child, by Xavier Raphanel (1876-1957)

Description

A lovely and impressive two-colour bronze group of a Horse drinking from a water trough, accompanied by a mother and child, the child being seated on the bare back of the horse. Signed to the bronze base by the French modeller Xavier RAPHANEL (1876-1957) and mounted on a good piece of moulded red marble. Not dated.

Xavier Raphanel was a French sculptor, and prolific producer of both human (mostly female) and animal figures. Some realistic, others in the Gothic style. His work is detailed and often (as it is in this case) utilises patinated (different coloured) bronzes. He died aged 81.

Dimensions:  Length: 13 inches.  Height: 10 inches.  Depth: 7 inches (33 x 25.5 x 18 cm)
