Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian credenza is a low, ornate cabinet popularised during the mid-to-late nineteenth century in Britain, designed for storage and display in formal dining rooms and drawing rooms. They frequently featured central cupboard doors flanked by curved or straight glazed display bays, finished with decorative wood veneers such as burr walnut and rosewood.

Craftsmen constructed Victorian credenzas using solid timber frames faced with figurative veneers, including burr walnut, amboyna, and ebony. Additional materials included silvered mirror glass panels, mouth-blown curved glass windows, hand-cast brass or ormolu mounts, and velvet or silk linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, original hand-applied veneers, secondary timber backs made of oak or pine, and authentic Victorian brass locks. Look for natural oxidation on metal mounts and minor irregularities in the hand-cut marquetry inlay.

Place the credenza as a focal point in a hallway, dining space, or reception room. Balance the detailed woodwork by hanging a large modern art print or modern mirror above it, and pair it with minimalist ceramics or table lamps to contrast the ornate Victorian detailing.

Dust the wood regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp walls to prevent veneer lift, warping, or colour fading.
