This Queen Anne and William and Mary period chest on stand is an English country house furniture piece from 1750. Constructed from walnut and brass, the object has a warm brown colour with figured walnut veneer and a polished finish. The upper section comprises a shaped, moulded cornice above two short drawers and three long drawers, resting on a base fitted with three short drawers, a shaped apron, six turned legs, and concave stretchers with bun feet. Key visible elements include brass drop handles, brass backplates, brass escutcheons, and visible lock plates. Measuring 152.5 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, this chest provides functional storage space for clothing or linen while serving as an imposing decorative statement. In a modern home, it suits a traditional hallway, a master bedroom, or a formal living room as a freestanding focal point.

A Queen Anne chest on stand, often called a tallboy or highboy, is a two-part storage piece originating in the early 18th century. It features an upper chest of drawers mounted onto a lower table or stand supported by turned or cabriole legs.

These pieces were typically constructed with solid oak or pine frames clad in highly figured walnut veneers. Hardware usually consisted of cast brass drop handles and engraved brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary woods showing natural shrinkage, hand-forged iron nails, and original brass fittings with evidence of gentle oxidisation.

Position the piece as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area alongside neutral textiles and modern art to create contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalism.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain and dust with a soft microfiber cloth.
