FAQs

Animalier bronzes gained popularity in 19th-century Europe, particularly in France, where sculptors focused on the realistic depiction of animals in naturalistic or dramatic poses.

These pieces were typically produced using the lost-wax casting method (cire perdue) or sand casting, resulting in solid or hollow copper-alloy figures mounted on natural stone bases such as marble or slate.

Authentic period pieces exhibit deep, natural patination, fine hand-chased details, weight appropriate for metal and stone construction, and often foundry marks or artist signatures along the base.

Such pieces serve as focal points on desks, bookshelves, or mantelpieces, adding textural contrast and historical character to both contemporary and traditional rooms.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and occasionally apply a very thin coat of microcrystalline wax to protect the metal surface from moisture and oxidation; never use abrasive cleaners.
