FAQs

Khamseh rugs were created by a confederacy of nomadic tribes in south-western Persia. They are recognized for their dense geometric arrangements, repeated diamond medallions, and stylized bird or animal motifs set against deep indigo and terracotta field colours.

These carpets were hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and the foundation. The wool was dyed using natural plant and mineral dyes, resulting in rich variations in tone known as abrash.

Authentic pieces exhibit slight irregularities in shape and knot density due to the use of portable horizontal looms. Looking at the back reveals a clear mirror image of the front pattern, flexible handling, soft hand-spun wool, and natural color variations.

A geometric tribal carpet provides grounding contrast when paired with contemporary furniture or minimalist architecture. The warm palette complements natural timber flooring, neutral linen upholstery, and dark leather accents.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating beater bar to protect the pile fibres. Promptly blot spills with clean water and mild soap, place an underlay beneath to prevent slippage, and periodically rotate the rug to ensure even wear.
