Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Louis XVI style is defined by Neoclassical principles, featuring straight geometric lines, symmetrical proportions, classical architectural motifs, and refined marquetry or parquetry woodwork paired with gilt-bronze accents.

These commodes are typically constructed using a solid timber carcase layered with fine wood veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, or rosewood, topped with carved marble slabs and detailed with cast ormolu mounts.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, heavy hand-chased gilt-bronze fittings with natural age patination, and thick hand-cut marble slabs matching period profile contours.

Position the piece as a focal anchor along a neutral wall, balanced by contemporary artwork hung above or flanked by minimalist lighting to highlight the intricate wood marquetry and bronze detailing.

Clean the marble top using pH-neutral stone cleaners to prevent etching, dust the veneered surfaces with a soft dry cloth, and avoid harsh chemical polishes on the gilt-bronze mounts.
