This early nineteenth-century Regency period sofa is formed from carved mahogany with a mellow brown finish and a dry surface, upholstered in gold-coloured striped patterned fabric accompanied by matching bolster cushions. The grand frame incorporates double scroll-ended lyre-inspired arms with paterae terminals, a shaped raised back displaying a fan-style central crest rail with reeded details, channeled reserves, split-bobbin decoration, and a front seat rail centred on a carved stylised leaf block above tapering turned and reeded legs fitted with original cast brass cup castors and wheels. The structure measures 110 cm high, 216 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, possessing a strong and sturdy horse-hair stuffed composition showing signs of old serviceable wear that requires refurbishment to a buyer's taste. Such a broad-scaled seating piece suits principal reception spaces like a drawing room or formal living area as a statement centrepiece for relaxation or conversation.

Originating in the early nineteenth century, Regency double scroll sofas feature sweeping outwards-curved armrests at both ends, drawing design inspiration from classical Greco-Roman daybeds and Greek klismos forms.

Frames were typically crafted from solid mahogany or rosewood, incorporating hand-carved decorative motifs, turned timber legs, brass castors, and webbed seats upholstered in fabrics such as silk damask or woven velvet.

Authentic Regency pieces display precise hand-carved detailing, reeded mouldings, original brass castors secured to turned or sabre legs, and traditional mortise and tenon frame joinery.

A Regency sofa functions as a structural focal point when placed alongside clean-lined contemporary lighting, neutral wall finishes, and minimalist side tables to complement its classical silhouette.

Maintain mahogany timber by positioning it away from direct heat sources and applying natural beeswax regularly, while velvet upholstery should be maintained using a soft brush or specialized vacuum attachment.
