Ziegler & Co was an Anglo-Swiss company established in Manchester that commissioned carpets in the Sultanabad region of Persia during the late nineteenth century. These carpets were designed specifically for Western export, adapting traditional Persian motifs to suit European interior tastes and room scales.

Authentic Ziegler carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a cotton warp and weft foundation. They traditionally utilise vegetable-based dyes, which yield muted, softer tones compared to standard regional weaves.

Authentic Ziegler carpets typically feature oversized floral palmettes and scrollwork on an open, uncluttered central field, lacking a central medallion. The weave is slightly coarser than urban Persian carpets, and the colour palette leans toward soft terracotta, slate blue, ivory, and faded gold.
