This large antique Ziegler carpet dates from 1890 and is executed in the Persian Ziegler style. Constructed from wool and cotton using vegetable dyes, the palette is dominated by slate blue and terracotta. The central field displays an all-over design of botanical floral palmettes and arabesque scrollwork, enclosed by an extra broad terracotta floral framing border. Subtle patination is visible across the original surface. Measuring 483 cm high and 290 cm wide, the textile is suitable for a spacious reception room or a grand entrance hall in an English Country House interior setting, anchored beneath a central dining table or centred in an open living space.

Ziegler & Co was an Anglo-Swiss company established in Manchester that commissioned carpets in the Sultanabad region of Persia during the late nineteenth century.
