We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

During the Victorian era, advancements in metal casting and industrial manufacturing allowed for the mass production of hygienic and durable metal bed frames, which gradually replaced wooden beds in middle-class households.

These beds were typically constructed using a combination of heavy cast iron for the structural frame and malleable brass for decorative finials, scrolls, and tubing, often enhanced with hand-painted enamel details.

Authentic pieces often feature makers plates, hand-welded joints, heavy structural components rather than lightweight tubular steel, and evidence of period manufacturing techniques such as sand-casting.

Pairing a metallic antique bed with neutral linen bedding and minimalist decor creates a balanced focal point that bridges historical character with modern simplicity.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical abrasives or commercial metal polishes that can strip the original protective lacquers or patina; instead, gently clean with a damp cloth if necessary.
