BIO

Founded in 1892 as an American firm, the Hamilton Watch Company ended American manufacture in 1969. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the Hamilton Watch Company eventually became integrated into the Swatch Group, the world's largest watch manufacturing. The company was named after James Hamilton, son of Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish born attorney . During the expansion of the railroads in the U.S., Hamilton maintained over 56% of the market. The company manufactured wristwatches as the market switched from pocket watches to wristwatches after World War I. During World War II, Hamilton retooled its business model to serve the military. The first watch made under the Hamilton name was an 18-size 17-jewel pocket watch in 1893. During World War II, production of consumer watches was stopped, with all watches manufactured being shipped to troops. More than one million watches were sent overseas.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco wristwatches feature geometric case shapes, such as rectangular, square, or tonneau silhouettes, along with distinctive typography for numerals and decorative lug details typical of early 20th-century design.

Mid-20th-century timepieces frequently utilised gold-filled or solid gold cases, acrylic crystals, brass movement plates, and leather or metal expansion straps.

Authentic vintage Hamilton watches generally feature branded movement engravings, correct case manufacturer hallmarks, period-accurate dial markings, and corresponding reference numbers inside the case back.

A rectangular vintage wristwatch functions as a traditional dress watch, complementing tailored suit jackets, formal evening wear, or smart casual attire with matching leather accessories.

Vintage mechanical watches require regular professional servicing every three to five years, protection from water or high humidity, and careful manual winding until resistance is felt.
