This era is characterised by architectural proportions, symmetrical drawer arrangements, and a transition from heavy walnut veneers to rich figured timbers like oak and mahogany.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid timber carcases, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer constructions, oak secondary woods, and applied mouldings with brass hardware.

Key indicators of age include hand-beveled drawer linings, irregular hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage cracks, period-correct brass escutcheons, and natural beeswax patination.

Pairing historical wooden textures with neutral contemporary walls and minimalist lighting creates a balanced focal point that grounds modern living spaces.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources, and periodically nourish the timber surface using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
