EARLY QASHQAI CARPET WITH A SCARCE ONE WAY STYLISED TREE OF LIFE RUNNING THROUGH THE MIDDLE WITH PROFUSE GEOMETRIC AND FLORAL MOTIFS. A QASHQAI MILLEFLEURS INTERPRETATION.

EACH END OF THE CENTRAL DESIGN BEING DIFFERENT WITH NO USUAL MEDALLION TO THE CENTRE.

THIS MILLEFLEURS DESIGN IS USUALLY SEEN ON PRAYER RUGS SO IS RARE TO SEE IT ON A RUG SUCH AS THIS EXAMPLE.

COLOURS ARE OF SUPERB MELLOW TONES WITH THE GROUND BEING A MID BLUE.

I NOTICED THE TWO PAIRS OF TRIBAL FIGURES EITHER SIDE OF THE CENTRAL DESIGN AND TO THE UPPER HALF RIGHT SIDE A PAIR OF SUBTLE ABSTRACT PEACOCKS FACING EACH OTHER ALMOST BECOMING PART OF THE OVERALL FLORAL ELEMENTS.

OVERALL IT IS A STUNNING EXAMPLE OF EARLIER QASHQAI WEAVING.

ALL OVER LOW PILE WITH TINY BITS OF WEAR. COUPLE OF VERY VERY SMALL VIRTUALLY UNDETECTABLE REPAIRS. REBOUND SIDE CORDS WITH EVEN FRINGES.

Qashqai Millefleurs rugs originated among nomadic Qashqai weavers in southwestern Persia during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Millefleurs or thousand flowers motif draws inspiration from Mughal imagery and classical Safavid designs, combining structured floral arches with tribal craftsmanship.

These carpets are typically woven using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation, though cotton warp threads were sometimes introduced in later production. Dyes were traditionally extracted from natural plant and mineral sources, producing rich terracotta, indigo, and ochre hues.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine symmetrical or asymmetrical hand-knotting, soft lustrous wool, and slight variations in colour known as abrash due to natural dye batches. Tribal features often include stylized animal motifs, floral arches, and detailed multi-banded borders.
