FAQs

An antique iron bedstead is a traditional sleeping frame constructed primarily from cast or wrought iron, often featuring decorative scrollwork, tubular framing, and characteristic painted finishes popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

These beds typically utilise heavy cast iron components, tubular steel rails, and detailed brass fittings, joined together using secure slot-in fittings, wedge locks, or threaded fasteners designed for durability.

Authentication involves examining the weight of the metal, the presence of genuine hand-applied layered paint finishes showing natural oxidisation, hand-forged joints, and non-standard sizing that predates modern mattress dimensions.

Pair the industrial frame with minimalist crisp white linens, textured natural wool throws, and contemporary lighting to create a balanced contrast between old-world character and modern simplicity.

Preservation requires dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the historic paint finish, and occasionally checking structural joints for stability without over-tightening.
