FAQs

French iron and metal beds gained popularity during the 19th century as manufacturing techniques advanced, moving away from heavy wood toward hygienic and durable metal frames featuring decorative castings and arched headboards.

These beds are typically constructed from tubular iron and cast iron components, often joined with side rails and secured by dovetail joints or wedges, sometimes incorporating brass accents and hand-painted finishes.

Authentic pieces often show signs of age in the paintwork, hand-poured metal castings with slight imperfections, and heavier gauge iron compared to modern reproductions.

Pairing a vintage metal bed with neutral linens, contrasting textured throws, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern minimalist aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that may damage the painted surface or protective wax coatings.
