How do I style a hallway runner?

Place the runner centrally along the length of the corridor, leaving an even margin of bare floorboards on all sides. This anchors the narrow space and creates a clear visual pathway through the interior. Pair the textile with understated furniture or bare walls to let the geometric patterns and saturated wool colours remain the focal point of the entrance.

Are these rugs suitable for high traffic?

These historical textiles were constructed by tribal weavers for practical domestic utility. The dense wool pile handles regular footsteps in hallways effectively when paired with a quality underlay. Rotate the textile periodically to distribute wear evenly along the length of the runner and prevent concentrated foot traffic in a single spot.

How do I clean an antique rug?

Vacuum the piece gently using suction only without a rotating brush roll to protect the historic wool pile. Professional specialist cleaning remains necessary for deeper maintenance. Address accidental spills immediately by blotting with a clean, dry white cloth rather than rubbing the moisture into the cotton foundation.

How do I identify a Caucasian rug?

Examine the piece for crisp geometric motifs, rectilinear medallions, and hooked polygons rather than curving floral arabesques. The colour palette relies on strong primary tones derived from natural dyes. Look closely at the structural characteristics, including the handle of the wool and the finishing of the sides and ends, which often display characteristic tribal overcast techniques.
