What is a partners desk?

A partners desk is built to be used from both sides simultaneously, featuring matching banks of drawers or cupboards facing front and back. Historically placed in the middle of a room rather than against a wall, these large desks allowed business associates or spouses to share a single workspace.

How do I care for leather desk inserts?

Leather writing surfaces benefit from occasional cleaning with a damp cloth followed by a neutral leather cream to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid placing hot cups or sharp objects directly on the leather to preserve the finish and any blind-tooled borders.

Are these desks suitable for daily computer work?

These historical desks accommodate modern office equipment while providing substantial storage space for documents and stationery. Measuring the kneehole height and width ensures that modern office chairs fit comfortably underneath the central drawer.

How do I distinguish Regency from Victorian desks?

Regency desks typically display clean classical lines, restrained brass mounts, and lighter mahogany or rosewood tones influenced by ancient Greek and Roman designs. Victorian pieces often favour heavier proportions, darker walnut or mahogany finishes, and more robust architectural details like carved corbels.
