Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These two framed stipple engravings by S. Freeman after Adam Buck date from 1800 in the Grand Regency style. Each print depicts a young child in a white dress seated outdoors in a pastoral landscape, with one child holding a red shoe and the other holding a tambourine. The paper prints sit beneath glass within matching ornate giltwood and plaster frames finished in a bright gilt gold colour. The frames display elaborate floral cresting decorations at the top and bottom centres, prominent acanthus leaf corner ornaments, reeded inner mouldings, and twist-carved outer borders. Each frame measures 43 cm high, 36 cm wide, and 3 cm deep overall. This pair provides a decorative focal point when hung together on a living room or dining room wall above a sideboard.

FAQs

Regency period prints, produced predominantly between 1800 and 1830, frequently featured classical themes, portraits, and sentimental genre scenes. Techniques such as stipple engraving allowed for fine tonal gradations, which were often finished with delicate hand colouring.

Prints were executed on heavy woven paper using oil-based inks and watercolour washes. Framing involved hand-carved wood decorated with applied composition ornament (compo) and coated in water-gilded or oil-gilded gold leaf.

Authentic prints from this era exhibit plate marks where the copper plate was pressed into the paper, visible chain lines in hand-made paper, and evidence of hand-applied colour washes rather than modern mechanical dot matrices.

Hang them in a stacked vertical configuration or side-by-side above a console table to accentuate symmetry. The warm gold leaf frames create contrast when set against dark, modern paint tones or classic wallpaper.

Display artwork away from direct sunlight and humid environments to prevent fading and foxing. Dust giltwood frames gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that degrade the gold leaf.
