Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth-century Swedish painted commodes reflects a Scandinavian country style, constructed from pine with a later distressed white paint finish that has been partially scraped back to reveal faded surfaces with minor marks and losses. Each chest features canted corners, moulded edging, and a top surface with a hand-painted faux-marble effect, alongside three drawers where the uppermost drawer displays a grooved lattice pattern while the lower two drawers share equal proportions. Additional details comprise later ornate brass drop handles with escutcheons, applied mouldings to the top of the canted corners, channelled detailing below, and four tapered turned feet. Each chest measures 77 cm high, 78.8 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, providing practical bedside or hallway storage within a rustic farmhouse interior. The pair suits placement in a bedroom or living space, offering compact storage surfaces with traditional period character.

FAQs

Swedish furniture from the 19th century, influenced by Gustavian and Scandinavian country styles, is defined by light painted finishes, symmetrical proportions, and classical geometric details designed to reflect light within northern European interiors.

These chests were typically crafted from native softwoods such as pine, finished with layered paint treatments, and fitted with cast brass drop handles and brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, original pine backboards, evidence of historic paint layers or wear patterns, and period-correct metal hardware.

A matching pair functions exceptionally well as generous bedside tables in a bedroom setting, or placed symmetrically on either side of a hallway, entrance alcove, or wide fireplace.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid water or abrasive chemical cleaners that could strip historic paint. Maintain a stable relative humidity to minimise timber expansion and paint flaking.
